When looking for a wagon style automobile, a car shopper is presented with several different choices. With large inefficient SUVs being out of style in the modern market, the wagon has emerged as a car model that is both fuel efficient and practical. For the buyer who still needs space, storage, and ruggedness, they have several models to take into consideration. Two such automobiles are the Subaru Outback and the Honda CR V. The competition of the Subaru Outback vs. Honda CR V is a close one between two efficient and well-tested wagon styled automobiles, and the following review will compare the two.Â
Â
The Subaru Outback vs. Honda CR V: The Exterior
The Outback is a stylish wagon with noticeable SUV styling in its overall appearance. The grille is all heavy lines and has large fog lights that set off a noticeable bumper. Roof pillars and wheel wells are also heavy and show the SUV influences of the Outback's overall design. The Subaru comes across as a stylish wagon with the durability of an SUV. This allows it to be an option for those seeking 'more' than just a wagon.
The CR V is a bit understated and hasn't seen a drastic redesign since 2012. While its look is classy, it is becoming a bit outdated with any recent changes being somewhat subtle.

The Subaru Outback vs. Honda CR V: Interior And Features
The interior of the Outback is straightforward. It definitely has a function over form design and nothing about it will ever really be out of date. Included features are as follows: AC, cruise control, Bluetooth, power locks/windows/mirrors, streaming features, wheel mounted controls, and an AM/FM/CD radio system. Higher level trims add such desirable features as: leather trim, heated seats, seventeen inch wheels, a nine speaker radio system, satellite radio, dual climate controls, GPS, a moonroof, and rear view cameras along with various sized LCD displays.Â
  Â
The CR V compares well. Like the Outback, basic features are included and include Bluetooth and streaming as well. Optional features include: leather trim, GPS, an improved sound system, an entertainment system for passengers, and heated seats.

The Subaru Outback vs. Honda CR V: The Engine And Fuel Efficiency
The Outback comes stock with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with an all-wheel drive CVT transmission. In terms of fuel efficiency the Outback rates very well with 24 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. An optional feature is a six-cylinder 3.6-liter engine. While an increase in horsepower is noticeable, the mpg does decrease going down to 18 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.
The CR V comes stock with a slightly weaker engine as its only option a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with front wheel drive and a four wheel drive option available. The FWD model gets 23/31 mpg overall and the 4WD model sees a slight decrease to 22/30 mpg overall.
