These days, people tend to confuse wagons with crossover SUVs, but for good reason-the two types of vehicles have a lot in common. They provide great features, options, performance, and an outstanding best-of-both-worlds combination for drivers in Manalapan, Marlboro, Freehold, and Englishtown.

Among five-passenger wagons, the Subaru Outback continues to compete with the best of them, with a solid lineup of trim levels and options packages. Read a complete breakdown and examination of 2017 Subaru Outback trim levels, the technology and safety features in each level, and where you can take a test drive.

2017 Subaru Outback Trim Levels

The current model of Outback seats five and comes in six possible trim levels. These include the base 2.5i level, the Premium, Limited, Touring, and the 3.6R Limited and Touring levels. The "lower" four 2.5 level trims indicate a 2.5 liter four-cylinder engine that powers them, while the two 3.6R levels indicate a 3.6-liter six-cylinder.

Base 2.5i Trim

The 2.5i trim level is the entry-level Outback, and includes such features as all-wheel drive, hill holder and hill-descent control, rearview camera, automatic headlights, air conditioning, adjustable seats, Bluetooth for phone and audio, Starlink infotainment with 6.2-inch touch screen, and a sound system that includes four speakers, a CD player, USB and auxiliary audio jacks, and smartphone app integration functionality.

Premium Trim

The 2.5i Premium gives you the basics, plus privacy glass, heated mirrors, windshield de-icing, fog lights, automatic dual-zone climate control, power adjust driver seat (eight-way with two-way lumbar), heated seats, upgraded touchscreen interface (7 inches with voice controls), Bluetooth for text messaging, satellite radio tuner, an extra USB port, and updated six-speaker sound. Also available at this level is a power moonroof package, which also gives auto-dim mirrors and the option for power liftgate.

Limited Level

The Limited level trim gives you everything from the Premium trim as well as safety features like blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alerts, bumper underguards, keyless entry and ignition, driver memory settings, power passenger seat adjustments, heated back seats, and premium Harmon Kardon sound with 12 speakers. At this level, too, you have the option for Xenon headlights.

3.6R Limited

This level, in addition to stepping it up to a six-cylinder engine, gives you the 2.5i Limited features, plus standard xenon headlights.

In addition, both limited levels carry the options for a GPS navigation system and a Driver Assist Technology package with EyeSight safety technology, plus adaptive cruise control, automatic fog lights and high-beams, and upgraded driver gauge displays as well as blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alerts.

Touring Level Trim

The Touring trim comes in both 2.5i and 3.6R versions, and delivers larger wheels, a special exterior design, special roof rails, a faux leather interior trim, full leather upholstery, and a heated steering wheel, in addition to everything listed above.
