Subaru has been a trusted name in automobile manufacturing for decades. At Freehold Subaru, located in Freehold, NJ, we bring the best and newest Subaru vehicles to residents in the Englishtown, Manalapan, and Marlboro areas.

We decided to give you a closer look at one of our newest additions: the 2017 Subaru Outback. The Outback has been reimagined for 2017 with an all-new design and groundbreaking technology. The technology package is standard with all trim levels, and certain upgrades are available for specific models.

In this review, you get to learn about the vehicle's best new features.

Subaru STARLINK

STARLINK is Subaru's state-of-the-art infotainment system. It can be accessed through the interior touchscreen monitor or your smartphone. It allows you to connect your smartphone directly to the vehicle, turning the monitor into a portable touchscreen computer. You can check the news, weather, text, talk on the phone, play Pandora radio, and access podcasts and audiobooks using the system.

Drivers can also use STARLINK as a navigation tool that offers GPS and turn-by-turn directions to any destination. The system is used to access the vehicle's driver assist technologies. Users can lock car doors and even honk their horn using the app. STARLINK works in conjunction with the MySubaru and STARLINK apps available in the Apple and Google Play stores.

EyeSight

As the name suggests, Subaru's EyeSight technology acts like an extra pair of eyes on the road. It provides driver assistance using specialized features developed by Subaru. Its Adaptive Cruise Control has two rearview cameras that reduce blind spots and monitor oncoming vehicles. Lane Keep Assist alerts you when your vehicle starts veering into another lane unintentionally.

Pre-Collision Braking warns you if your Outback is in danger of hitting another vehicle. Reverse automatic braking helps you to get out of tight spots, while High Beam Assist helps you to navigate dark roads. EyeSight technology comes standard with all 2017 Outback versions.

X-Mode Technology

X-Mode is an electronic system activated through Subaru's STARLINK interface. It manages the Outback's engine, all-wheel drive, transmission, and brakes. X-Mode offers support for your vehicle during inclement weather or bad road conditions.

Engine

The 2017 Subaru Outback has two different optimized engines. Drivers can choose from a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that's fuel efficient due to the Partial Zero Emission Vehicle (PZEV) add-on or a 3.6-liter six-cylinder engine with a six-speed manual transmission. The 2.5-liter engine has a Lineartronic continuously variable transmission that runs on lower levels of fuel.
