It's never easy to choose your next sedan, especially if you're considering vehicles like the 2017 Subaru Legacy or the 2017 Nissan Altima. Both of these vehicles deliver a great deal of power and efficiency, but if you had to choose which one you want to take out across the Freehold, Englishtown, and Marlboro area, which one would it be?

If you're not able to answer just yet, that's fine-our team at Freehold Subaru is going to help you by taking a closer look. In this comparison, we'll be looking at the Subaru Legacy vs. Nissan Altima and their respective performance and handling, entertainment amenities, and safety ratings. By reading this comparison, you'll be able to decide which sedan is right for you.

Subaru Legacy vs. Nissan Altima: Performance & Handling

The Subaru Legacy is powered by the 2.4L four-cylinder Subaru BOXER® engine, which lays flat under the hood and features horizontally opposed valves. This engine not only helps reduce drag with its engine placement, but because of its low center of gravity, it helps boost efficiency as well. The Nissan Altima is also outfitted with a 2.5L four-cylinder engine. In terms of power, each vehicle can easily surpass 170 horsepower.

When it comes to performance, the Subaru Legacy delivers superior agility thanks to the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, which is fed power from the horizontally opposed valves in the engine. The Nissan Altima, on the other hand, features front wheel drive. While FWD can provide impressive handling, it's not as precise or efficient as the Subaru Symmetrical All Wheel Drive.

Subaru Legacy vs Nissan Altima: Entertainment Amenities

The Subaru Legacy and the Nissan Altima both come equipped with four-speaker sound systems, as well as a radio and a CD/MP3 player. The Subaru Legacy offers easier access to the features via the STARLINK™ 6.2-inch high-resolution LCD touchscreen display. This system also includes HD Radio® with iTunes® tagging, as well as access to Pandora®, iHeart® Radio, Stitcher™, and Aha™. The Nissan Altima requires an upgrade to feature a touchscreen display. Both vehicles come with Bluetooth® connectivity for hands-free phone calls and smartphone streaming.

Subaru Legacy vs. Nissan Altima: Safety Ratings

While both of these sedans feature a variety of systems to help not only protect the passengers, but aid in avoiding a collision altogether, they have varying differences in their respective crash tests. According to the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety, both vehicles earned the 2017 Top Safety Pick+, but the Nissan Altima actually scored lower in certain subcategories like front crash prevention and even the headlights and the ease of use for the child seat anchors.

Both vehicles participated in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration crash tests. Both vehicles earned the 5-Star Overall Safety Rating, but the Nissan Altima only earned four stars in some of its categories like front passenger side, and even earning three stars in both side crash driver side and front seat rating. The Subaru Legacy earned five stars across the board.
