New Jersey has a rich history the spans all over its borders. The garden state played an integral role in the Revolutionary War, which helped establish the United States of America. In order to understand the history of this wonderful state, people from the Freehold, Farmingdale and Manalapan area can attend the Spirit of the Jerseys State History Fair. This fair offers a fun and educational experience about New Jersey and the vast history that it has. Take the family, and enjoy some educational fun.

What to Expect During the State History Fair

History buffs will take great pleasure in interacting with iconic historical figures like George Washington, Ben Franklin, Harriet Tubman and Walt Whitman. Attendees can even witness an exact replica of the casket that held our 16th president, Abraham Lincoln.

A mock funeral will even be held, and Walt Whitman will read his famous “Oh Captain, My Captain” poem in honor of our fallen president. Ulysses S. Grant will also speak on the relationship he had with Lincoln. Attendees can also enjoy period music that is played on actual vintage instruments by the Fort Delaware Cornet Band during the ceremony.

The State History Fair will also feature a civil war reenactment, so you can see what it was like during one of the roughest periods in American history. Watch the 14th NJ Volunteers take the battlefield and fight for the Union.

Featured Exhibitors at the State History Fair

This event will feature numerous organizations including the Archaeological Society of NJ, who will discuss the importance of historical preservation and the various methods to help ensuring that New Jersey’s history stays intact. They’ll even show numerous historical artifacts and give detailed information about the literal pieces of history.

In terms of living history, this event will feature numerous actors portraying characters to give you a better insight as to what life was like in the earlier days of New Jersey. These include actual historical figures, citizens and even soldiers.

Not only will the State History Fair host several war re-enactments, but several organizations including Mott’s Artillery and the National Guard Militia Museum of NJ will show actual Revolutionary War and Civil War artifacts and weapons. There will be artillery demonstrations as well as military camp life demonstrations to give attendees a better idea of early American warfare equipment and practices.

12th Annual Spirit of the Jerseys State History Fair Details

This fair will be held on Saturday, May 14th, and it will be located at the Monmouth Battlefield State Park in Manalapan, NJ. This fair will take place between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Parking will be available for $10 per vehicle. This event will be rain or shine, so come prepared for all weather outcomes.
